N's house did; mine did not.

My Aunt Lucy's house did. There was also a plastic runner leading a path from the door into the house. So bizarre. When I was older my mom got herself a parlor and some furniture that we weren't allowed to sit on. But it wasn't covered in plastic.
We had plastic coverings on the lamps, but not on the furniture. I think we finally removed them for my Bat Mitzvah, and they never came back.
